Adam Scott, Director
Adam is a climate change expert with extensive domestic and international experience in policy, energy and finance, as well as campaign design and execution. He has a lifelong commitment to supporting the transition to a low carbon economy in Canada. At Shift, he works with wide-ranging stakeholders to bring international climate leadership into Canada’s financial sector. Previously, Adam was Senior Advisor to Oil Change International and manager of Environmental Defence Canada’s Climate & Energy program. Adam has advised governments, communicated through national and international media , and has published numerous reports focused on various aspects of the low carbon transition. Adam and his family have recently returned Toronto after living in the UK.
Patrick DeRochie, Pension Engagement Manager
Patrick has wide-ranging experience in policy, research, government relations, digital engagement, campaigning, organizing and stakeholder relations with environmental and labour organizations. At Shift, he is focused on building a network of pension beneficiaries in Canada to invest their retirement savings in a zero-carbon future. Previously, Patrick was Climate and Energy Program Manager with Environmental Defence Canada and Political Organizer with SEIU Healthcare, one of Canada’s largest healthcare labour unions. He also worked in Canadian and Ontario politics and has a Master’s degree from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs. Patrick has been deeply involved in developing federal and provincial climate and energy policy and regulations, acted as a regular commentator in national media, and has written, edited or contributed to ten reports focused on climate policy, energy regulation and oil and gas infrastructure.
Miranda Black, Organizational Coordinator
Miranda holds a BA in Environmental and Urban Sustainability and is currently working toward an MASc. in Environmental Applied Science and Management at Ryerson University. Prior to joining Shift, Miranda had previously worked in eco-tourism throughout Canada and has experience working on numerous environmental conservation projects. With extensive experience in administrative management, she is a wiz in project management and organizational development.

Julia Langer, Chair of the SC CEO, The Atmospheric Fund
Julia has held senior leadership positions in the environmental sector for nearly 30 years, managing environmental campaigns and organizations, defining strategy and policy, and inspiring public and private action. Julia leads TAF staff in advancing the organization’s solutions to climate and air pollution, and with support from TAF’s Investment Committee, oversees the fiscal integrity of TAF’s endowment.
John Cook, Steering Committee Member President, Greenchip Financial
John is President of Greenchip Financial Corp. Prior to joining Greenchip, John was President of MaRS Discovery District, where he led corporate development and strategy from 2001-2005. John has also held executive positions at AIM Funds Management Inc. and BPI Financial Corporation.
Laura Zizzo, Steering Committee Member CEo, mantle314 inc.
Laura Zizzo is CEO of Mantle, a boutique consulting firm that provides leading expertise in climate risk, resiliency and low-carbon solutions. She is a lawyer and strategic advisor with deep climate-expertise. Drawing upon her interdisciplinary background, she has been leading organizations toward a low-carbon and climate-adapted future for nearly 20 years. Laura started her legal career with a prominent Bay Street law firm before founding the first law firm in Canada focused on climate change in 2009 and Zizzo Strategy in 2015 (now known as Mantle314). She is a frequent writer and speaker on the move to the low-carbon economy and has become a leading voice on the imperative to adapt to a changing climate.
Trish Long, Steering Committee Member Principal, Trish Long Consulting
Trish Long is a business consultant who specializes in revenue growth, leadership coaching and responsible investing. Highlights of her career include managing assets at Merrill Lynch Canada, running the $55 million campaign for Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto, and directing a national team at the Pembina Institute, a Canadian clean energy think-tank, through a significant period of growth.
Toby Heaps, steering Committee member CEO, Corporate knights
Toby is the CEO and co-founder of Corporate Knights Inc. and publisher of Corporate Knights Magazine. He spearheaded the first global ranking of the world’s 100 most sustainable corporations in 2005, and in 2007 coined the term “clean capitalism.”
Shilpa Tiwari, steering committee member
Shilpa has an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, a Master’s degree in Business and Sustainability and a PhD in Social Anthropology. While born in Toronto, Shilpa has lived and worked in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa.
She is currently Head, Global Sustainability and Corporate Citizenship at Manulife, pirate to this role the was Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibly at OMERS and President of the OMERS Foundation. She has also has extensive experience in mining, oil and gas, and infrastructure.
